Located in Marlboro, Massachuestts, USA
15 MW plant in Marlboro with part of capacity allocated to R&D.
Note, a new cell fabrication process has been introduced at Marlboro which increases cell efficiency to just over 14.5 percent (very close to the industry median).
Note, Marlboro has been developing a quad-ribbon furnance that will likely be the central design of the upcoming EverQ-3 production facility.
Produces solar wafers, cells, and modules based on proprietary crystalline silicon String Ribbon technology.
Evergreen Solar’s
String Ribbon technique
- This technique is able to create nearly one-and-a-half times as much pv generating capacity as the conventional methods are able to from the same about of refined silicon.
- Furthermore, the solar modules produce via this technique are of such high quality that Evergreen Solar has began testing the modules to a more stringent international standard. I.E., Evergreen Solar modules are now being tested
to generate 98% of their rated capacity.
- Additionally, a 150 micron thin–ribbon advancement is in developement that could generate three times as much pv generation capacity as conventional methods are able to from the same about of refined silicon.
Update:
- “The EverQ-1 factory completed its implementation of thin wafer production, ending the quarter [4th quarter 2006] with silicon consumption of approximately 5.0 grams per watt.”
- “We [Evergreen Solar in Marlboro] demonstrated a cell manufacturing process that exceeds 15% cell efficiency and
- improved our Quad Ribbon furnace operating performance with better wafer thickness and laser-cutting control.”
- Note, Evergreen Solar’s future targets: 18% efficiency; 3 grams Si/watt; $1.50/watt production; $3.50/watt installed.

Evergreen Solar’s
SunplicityTM Flat Roof Mounting System
- A non-penetrating mounting systems for flat roofs of 5-degree pitch or less.
- Held in place by its own weight and an aerodynamic cowling system.
- Simplifies grounding.
- Fast, cost effective installation.
- Adds less then 5 lbs/sq. ft load to the roof.
